Well since me and Crash volunteered to start helping Kave, i've been working on the old c17 construction yard.

I still have alot of work to do but this is my first final compile of it, still alot to fix aswell like the elevators are broken the cranes need to be remade..
Oh and i should probably add some colour correct and shange the ambient lighting to a more cooler blue type colour.

Oh and i made the skybox aswell Smile

You probably cant see them but i added like about 50 or so stain decals in the map already Laughing

Yeah but im actually putting in effort to add more detail instead of the shitty unfinished crap it was...

Also lol @ some things in that video... Whoever fixed this basically didnt do much apart from fix the elevators and compile the map because they even left the same stupid cone shaped brush piles of rubble which is probably the first thing i changed to displacements. To give it credit it is close to the original but the problem with that is the original isnt anywhere near close to finished! Neutral

Also lol he spelt Borealis "Borialis" lol!

excelllleeeent Very Happy looking good mon ^^ just don't do to much till i've renamed these textures (I don't know how many textures are in the beta that aint in retail but.......theres alot....and im having to rename EVERY building template becuase there all differnt to retail :/) so wait till ive done that till you finish off Smile we can make the city look REALLY diverse now!!

Still good job and im actulay incline to agree, but not just this place, we need ALL of city 17 to be rainy, only in the canals does the rain stop and the sunrays shine through Very Happy think about it, city 17 was original set at night, if we make it very dark and rainy, then when freeman hits the canals we can make it daybreak the rain can stop Very Happy will also make the canals look cool with little puddles everywhere from the rain (as they've pretty much dried up).

Work starts on the trainstation HOPEFULLY tomorrow night!

Thanks guys yeah still alot to work on lol, but sounds like the majority is voting for a rainy dark type feel so yeah a short list of things to do would be;

  • Change the lighting to a more darker, greyer type thing
  • Add rain and possibly rain particles
  • Fix the skybox seams
  • Compile my recreated normal maps for all the brick textures (Valve's ones are either non existent or suck lol)
  • Add more detail props
  • Change the decals to info_overlays (ugh god i hate this entity)
  • Add more Hint/Skip brushes
  • Add areaportals (UGH i hate creating this entity too)
  • Add occluders
  • Add colour correction
  • Recreate the logic entities
  • Retexture the crane and the little control box for the crane (Possibly make them func_buttons so you can loosely control the crane aswell.)
  • Create proper fade distances for the props
  • Add info nodes and hint nodes for NPCs
  • The level transition triggers will probably need fixing but that has to wait for the previous and next maps to be ready
  • Some lights need to be fine tuned to not be so damn bright lol


That's about all i can think of at the moment lol
