PostSubject: The Terminator - Future Shock & Skynet Review   Tue Mar 09, 2010 10:12 am

Decided to take a leaf from kat's book and make some reviews of my own, inject some culture into your new-aged gameing, muddy, dirty, crack ridden veins!! lol

The Terminator - Future Shock

Released in 1995 by Bethesda, Future Shock TRULY was the 90's leap in FPS. The first FPS to incorporate a TURE 3d enviroment (Even though it was 2d weapons), all other FPS at the time faked 3d technology (doom, duke nukem 3d and such).

Set Just before terminator 1, you are a nameless human that has been liberated from a death camp by a resitance soldier (The first mission will be given to you by him on his death bed). I forget exactly how many levels there are, but I remeber there being a HELL of alot.

Weapons wise, you had a choice of 17 in the end, ranging from a metal pipe, to a nade launcher (the picture forit was of the pulse rifle from aliens), to a phased plasma cannon. When new aged games ranted about being able to incorporate vehicles into there games for the very first time, bethesda did it first. Not only were missions set on foot, but also resistance jeeps and salvaged Hunter Killer Fighters (The planes from T1 and 2).

The graphics for its day were quite good, being able to have more on screen than stuff like quake (although breifings were as you can see, animated drawings). However, in 1996, an addon/new game was released, called The Terminator - Skynet:

With this came 9 new levels, a multiplayer function with the ability to use jeeps and h/ks (thats right, this baby did it first!), superior sound and gameplay AND! and upgrade in graphics, turning the games resolution and even textures to be on par with that of Half-Life 1 (IN 19-FUCKING-96 !!).
The game also incorporated the first "FREE LOOK" Function. Even quake did not fully have this, you had to hold a button down in order to free look round, future shock you could simply do what you could in the latest FPS.

All in all, these games were pushing boundries, and got COMPLTELY over shadowed in the gameing industry becuase bethesda just wern't that big back then. An amazing game that gave me goosebumps while playing each and everytime, still to this day I play it and find it tough, more so than any new aged FPS.
